Trampoline Injuries – Vuly Design the Best Choice For Safety
With an astounding one quarter of childhood injuries on play equipment being related to trampolines in Australia alone, it’s important to make the right decision. As cited in this research paper, that was published in 2012, the traditional style of trampoline can result in higher and more severe injury.
One important factor to consider with injuries is that a high percentage related to the collision; more than one child on the trampoline at a time. It is not recommended that there is more than one on a trampoline at a time in order to keep play safe.
The design of trampolines has changed over more recent years and there has been a price tag to match. Even so, I like to compare the price of a quality trampoline that is an ongoing fun activity, to a holiday or general toy spending. It is still a good investment given the hours your kids will be jumping.
I don’t recommend spring trampolines with no enclosure. Further, it is important to look at the overall design of the trampoline to make sure it does have superior safety features. That’s what I love about Vuly Thunder Trampolines. Here is my Vuly Thunder Trampoline review.
My Experience With The Vuly Thunder Trampoline
Yes, I did buy a Vuly Thunder Trampoline and yes I did a LOT of research prior to my purchase. So, you can thank me below by leaving a comment 🙂
I was impressed with the customer service. My Vuly basketball hoop didn’t make delivery as they were sold out prior to Christmas, but they did keep me informed and it wasn’t long until it arrived. Even pre-sale, the service was pretty good.
I was given the number of a couple of people in Melbourne who could undertake the vuly thunder installation and I did decide to get a guy out to install the trampoline. I am glad I did as, even though it is a relatively simple process once you see it in action, it is time consuming and he knew the steps to take rather than me having to read up about what to do. It did involve some bending of the leaf system poles as you can see by the picture I have provided and he did say you needed to know where to bend them.
All up I think it took 2 hours to install it – and this was the large Vuly Thunder trampoline that I got. I have not encountered any issues after installation and the kids love the vuly thunder. I mean REALLY use it. They are on it before school some mornings and even before Breakfast sometimes and then they do use it every night. They even jump on it in the rain.
10 Top Questions Prior to Buying a Trampoline
I know that before I bought the Vuly Thunder Trampoline for my kids for Christmas 2013, that I had a few questions. The price range varies greatly between the spring trampolines and the springfree trampolines. I based my decision to buy a vuly thunder on the following criteria. So, I’ve done the research and hard work for you.
1. What sizes are available?
There are three sizes for the Vuly Thunder Trampoline:
- medium,
- large (the one I got)
- and extra large
2. What shapes are available?
You can select round, round or, let’s see…ummm……. round. That’s all that is available at the time of writing this post, when it comes to the Vuly Thunder Trampoline so that’s a consideration for where in your yard you put the vuly thunder or if the shape will suit. I’m happy with it being round even though initially I was interested in a rectangular shaped trampoline.
3. What is the bounce like?
The vuly thunder has been designed to have the best bounce of any backyard trampoline. My children and I were highly impressed with the bounce. Generally kids don’t think too much about bounce to comment about it but when my kids first tried the Vuly Thunder, they told me it had the best bounce ever.
It has a unique tapered leaf spring that is different to anything else out there and makes it better than the spring free trampoline, in my opinion.
 4. Which is a good size given how many kids I have and their ages
It is generally not a good idea to have more than one child on a trampoline at any given time as that is when many injuries happen. Vuly does recommend the following:
- medium ideal for big back yards and jumpers of all ages. Jump mat diameter – 2.5m
- large ideal for extra large yards and general family use. Jump mat diameter – 3.2m
- and extra large ideal for huge backyards and general family use. Jump mat diameter – 3.8m
5. Does the trampoline have a safety net or enclosure?
Yes, absolutely and even if you crash into it you won’t hit the poles or hurt yourself on the ground if you fall into it like you can do with cheaper brands. It also boasts the tallest safety net in Australia – to go with that super bounce we talked about and experienced.
6. Is the trampoline spring free? If not, what is the padding like?
The Vuly Thunder has a unique leaf spring system that connects to the mat underneath. There is no need for padding and that can be a saving too as you will not have padding to replace. It is simply the mat lining up with the enclosure net. No springs, no padding in sight. Very impressive!
7. How weather resistant is the net?
Made of super strong Silk Terylene, the Vuly Thunder net is UV-rated and won’t leave grazes like other netting materials.
8. What is the Vuly trampoline price?
Prices do change over time so it may be best to check out the vuly thunder prices here.
9. What about Vuly accessories?
There are 3 accessories (and the bonus games you can play from the printed pictures on the trampoline).
We got the basketball hoop that has a super safe hoop attached and is pre-assembled in the box. You simply clip it onto the top of the pole you choose and start playing. It also comes with a free ball and pump.
The Vuly Tent came free with our purchase. The kids were super excited about this. You do need a tall ladder to put it up on the Vuly Thunder so keep that in mind.
The Vuly Deck is also available but we didn’t get that one – yet!
10. What is the support and delivery like?
I found support to be very good and the delivery was pretty fast. I have no complaints. Everything comes with instructions and video instructions are also available which is super handy, and you can do live chat with Vuly if you really need help.
Overall The Vuly Thunder Rocks!
I’m extremely impressed with the Vuly Thunder and I have no regrets about spending the extra to get a good quality trampoline that is the safest trampoline around. Vuly does have another range that is cheaper and it is called the Vuly Classic.

Hey guys – thanks for the great info! We are looking to purchase a Thunder, however, are concerned as the only area we have for it is on grass – and we’re worried about how we’ll go having to move it to mow under it? Can you tell me know you tackle this??
Cheers!!

Hi Lauren,
Thanks for your comment and that’s a very good question. I had asked Vuly that myself before we purchased one and they said that they are working on a solution to this by developing a new accessory. At the moment you cannot move it. I have it on part concrete / part grass. You could take the skirt off and slide a whipper snipper through to get parts of the grass and depending on which size vuly you purchase, this may do the trick until they finish the moving equipment. So, short term, you’d just have to wear the long grass (pun intended…hehe) until Vuly are ready to give us the option to move it. Even so, I have to say that my kids have had heaps of use from the vuly thunder – grass and all. 🙂 I have absolutely no regrets and the bounce is better than any trampoline I have been on.
Regards, Alex’s Mum.

Hi Helen,
Thanks for your comment and I am glad we could help. It is a large investment but I don’t have any regrets. It is great to see my kids outdoors on it daily. Sometimes they just go out and play games on it with soft toys without jumping around. It is great for their health and it gets them outdoors. My recommendations….buy one. 🙂

Our yard is very hilly and I don’t believe we have a flat space to put the trampoline. Do you think it would be on our back patio? It’s concrete. Thanks!
Alex's Mum says
Hi Abbie,
You will need a flat surface. The trampolines are quite large and it will depend on how big your back patio is. Only you can answer that one depending on the dimensions.
Abbie says
It will fit, I just wanted to make sure it’s okay to be set on concrete, not grass. Thanks
Alex's Mum says
oh absolutely. I have mine on a flat surface that is part grass and part concrete. We have had our Thunder a year now and I reckon it’s the best Christmas gift I have ever given my kids. The amount of use we get out of it is worth the investment. 🙂
Abbie says
Ok, thanks! How do you anchor down if on a concrete surface?
Alex's Mum says
I haven’t anchored it. It’s pretty heavy and I have the large size and Vuly recommend putting it on concrete as you can’t really move it to mow underneath. Here are the weights for the Thunder:
Medium: 171.9kg
Large: 221.7kg
Extra Large: 254.3kg
We’ve had some pretty big storms here in Melbourne since I have had it and in those moments, I was worried more about the basketball ring that attaches to it than the trampoline itself…hehe But the basketball ring is still very much in tact. So, unless where you live is prone to extreme weather, I think you will be ok. Do you think it will be a problem?

Thanks for your advice on the Vuly Thunder trampoline. My mum is looking at buying one for my 3 kids. Do you think the large Thunder trampoline is good for 3 children aged 5,7,11?
Alex's Mum says
Hi Kim,
Oh absolutely. Mine are similar in age (and I have 3 kids too) and it was the best investment I made. I only just moved house so had to dis-assemble it and re-assemble and being on my own, I was surprised how easy it was. While I had a friend help take it down, I put it up on my own this time once moved. Just be aware that it is not moveable once set up so any grass underneath will not survive. We love our vuly and I highly recommend it as a trampoline of choice.
My neighbour said she will miss hearing my kids outside playing on the trampoline when we move. She said it is so rare that kids get so much outside time these days and she loved hearing my kids, even when they did fight. 🙂
Your kids will be soooo excited.

Thanks for a fabulous, thoughtful review Alex’s Mum… It definitely has assisted me in narrowing down my choice. My one hesitation with the Thunder purchase is that we’re planning to move within 12 months. My partner thinks we should hold off on buying it, but I know my sons (3 years, 3 months – spectator 😉 would get immediate enjoyment out of it. I see you’ve already commented on disassembling & reassembling the Thunder. Having now gone through that would you hold off on the purchase until after your move or was the process not too daunting? Thanks again Alex’s Mum… wishing you and your family a great Christmas! Kate
Alex's Mum says
Hi Kate,
Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment.
I recently had to dismantle the Thunder and re-assemble. The dismantle was quicker than I thought and I did have a male friend help me because I’m on my own. I attempted to re-assemble on my own and that was tricky. The base was easy enough but getting the bounce net to attach all the way around required more strength so I had the same male friend come back and finish setting it up. If you think it will be 12 months before you move I would say, buy it and use it. It is awesome and my kids still jump on it all the time. It was a great investment. Since you have a partner, you could easily take it down and set it up between the two of you. I watched carefully when the original guy I paid, assembled it so I kind of knew the process. There are good instructions.
I say…go for it. It would be an awesome Christmas gift, stress reliever for all parents and a great, safe, outside activity for kids.
I have to move again in the next few months so will be going through the process again shortly.
I hope that helps and I wish you and your family a very safe and happy festive season.
Regards, Alex’s Mum.

I enjoyed your review. We were ready to buy a Vuly Thunder until we found a website that had a lot negative reviews concerning the stitching on the mat and straps coming undone and the leaf springs breaking. Have you had any problems with your Vuly Thunder?
Alex's Mum says
Hi Kyla,
Just make sure that review is verified. Sometimes opposition companies have false reviews written and that’s the unfortunate thing about online reviews sometimes.
There is some wear of the stitching around the entrance onto the trampoline but everything else seems fine. None of my leaf springs have broken and it has been disassembled once and about to be disassembled again with the next move. Not sure which straps you mean as the Thunder doesn’t have any. 🙂
Hope that help you make a decision.
Regards, Alex’s Mum.

Iv got a new thunder L on its way my 4 kids are looking forward to a 2016 summer full of thunder fun. I was Hoping for an update on your thunder if it’s still being used or have you had to update too something new now that’s it’s 2016, do you feel it was worth the money and if it lasted like you would have hoped. I thought it would be nice to get an update. Kind regards J*
Alex's Mum says
Hi Jaz,
Yes we still have the Thunder. The kids have used it heaps and still do use it but not quite as much as when we first got it. You have to apply protector to the metal to keep it looking new. We only did that once and as a result of not re-applying there is a little rust in sections. The Vuly Thunder does still do what is was bought to do. The entry point netting sags a little now but it is still such a safe trampoline. We haven’t had to update and we have moved house twice with it so it has lived through disassembly and re-assembly with no worries. Yes, I do think it has been worth the money but then, it can depend on how much each family would use it. Some kids are more into trampolines than others. I hope that helps you.
